Reflecting on a Year of Growth: Celebrating Over 100,000 Members in Our Digital Community

As we usher in the new year, it’s fitting to pause and reflect on the remarkable journey of our digital community through 2020—a year that tested us all but also reinforced the importance of our profession.

The Challenges and Opportunities of 2020

The past year was undeniably tumultuous. The global pandemic upended daily life, causing countless businesses to face closures, layoffs, and unpredictable futures. It was a difficult period, leaving many feeling uncertain and overwhelmed. However, amid the adversity, the digital industry experienced unprecedented growth. Companies that previously relied solely on offline operations found themselves needing to pivot quickly and embrace digital solutions, accelerating innovation and adoption across sectors.

Looking back, 2020 may well be regarded as a pivotal year that solidified the role of digital professionals in the fabric of business strategy. The upheaval created a foundation upon which we can build stronger, more resilient, and more confident digital ecosystems.

Our Community’s Expanding Footprint

One of the most inspiring developments over the past year has been the rapid growth of our community. We’ve cultivated a space where individuals can share insights, ask questions, seek guidance, and find reassurance during uncertain times. Despite some days feeling quiet, our community size has surpassed 100,000 members—a milestone that highlights the collective strength and reach of our network.

At the moment of writing, even with the entire United States asleep, active discussions persist. For instance, I noticed a recent thread was promptly flagged and removed by our vigilant members in under four minutes. This level of engagement underscores the dedication and attentiveness within our group.

The Power of a Digital Native Community

Many of us gravitate toward the digital world because it aligns with our introverted tendencies—sometimes preferring to observe and learn rather than teach. Our profession is one of the youngest, constantly evolving with new tools, trends, and best practices emerging daily. While true teaching is invaluable, much of our collective knowledge stems from the experiences—both successes and mistakes—of community members. Sharing this collective wisdom is an invaluable resource, nurturing growth and fostering a supportive environment.

As we move into 2021, I encourage everyone to recognize their individual expertise, embrace imperfection as part of the learning process, and foster open conversations within the community. By doing so, we can continue to elevate our profession and support each other more effectively.

Looking Ahead: Your Voice Matters

As we set our sights on the year ahead, I invite your feedback. Reflecting on 2020, what aspects of this community did you find valuable? What areas could be improved? Are there topics or formats you’d like to see more of? Please share your thoughts in the comments—your insights are vital to shaping a more useful and engaging space for all.

A Heartfelt Thank You

This community wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated efforts of our moderators. Managing an active digital marketing forum involves countless hours of review, moderation, and responding to queries—all while balancing personal and professional commitments. Special thanks to all moderators, especially /u/JonODonovan, who has tirelessly contributed to maintaining the integrity and usefulness of our space.

Finally, thank you—each of you—for participating, sharing, and contributing to this collective effort. Your involvement makes this community vibrant and impactful. Together, we’ve built a resource that continues to grow and evolve, and I look forward to what we can accomplish in the year ahead.
